The monstrously seductive act SHIV-R has carved out a name as an “elegant yet hard-hitting” force in the industrial landscape with club-staples such as “Parasite”, “Eye of the Needle” and “Pharmaceutical Grade” haunting alternative dancefloors the world over. Through festival shows and headlining tours throughout Europe and America the band have delivered their provocative visuals and high-energy stage show to thousands of stomping feet, and their flamboyantly dark visual edge combined with harsh yet dynamic music has lead the press to coin the term “Lace Industrial” to describe their unique genre.
With the growth of the project, SHIV-R’s members Pete Crane and Ben Lee Bulig have seen the highs and lows that come with the territory, from the insatiable crowds of Mexico City and the pulsing halls of Germany’s Wave Gotik Treffen, to the controversial blowback from their provocative imagery leading to outraged individuals labelling the act “Krank und Gestört” (sick and disturbed). The themes of the band’s third album “Wax Wings Will Burn” are as lofty as its Icarus-themed title; the triumphs and trials hang like artificial wings that give hope in the possibility of feats no mortal could achieve, or weigh heavily towards the ground. SHIV-R as an entity is above all a self-made monster created from nothing, just like any individual who chooses an alternative lifestyle instead of the default life-path presented by the mainstream.
